Is Breast Reduction Right for You?
In most cases, breast reduction isn't performed until a woman's breasts are fully developed. However, it can be done earlier if large breasts are causing serious physical discomfort. The best candidates are those who are mature enough to fully understand the procedure and have realistic expectations about the results. Breast reduction is not recommended for women who intend to breast-feed.
Your Breast Reduction Consultation
During your free breast reduction consultation with your Surgeon, you can discuss the goals and expectations of your surgery. Your breast reduction consultation will be with an experienced patient coordinator and cosmetic nurse. We will give you as much information as necessary to enable you to make an informed decision. You will have the opportunity to discuss detailed aspects of your breast reduction operation with your Surgeon. Our Surgeons are General Medical Council (GMC) registered as well as being members of affiliated bodies and societies, these details are included on the Surgeon's profile. You may be shown several before and after treatment photographs of patients with similar breasts, and your Surgeon will explain the treatment, and outcome, you can expect to receive.
The Procedure for Breast Reduction
During breast reduction surgery, fatty tissue in the breast, along with glandular tissue and excess skin is removed. By removing these elements, the breast can be pulled tighter making them lighter, smaller and firmer. Breast reduction surgery is generally performed under a general anaesthetic.
Recovery from Breast Reduction
The recovery time for each patient following their breast reduction can vary based upon the amount of tissue removed and other factors. Breast reduction patients will need to take roughly ten days off work. A breast reduction often prevents individuals from resuming any heavy lifting or strenuous activity for a few weeks. Breast reduction results will emerge as the swelling goes down.
